The 2008 National ASPRS Annual Conference - Bridging the Horizons was held in Portland, Oregon April 28 through May 2, 2008 at the Oregon Convention Center. The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing offered an outstanding program of general and technical sessions looking to the future of the geospatial industry.

Certifications and Honors::

3Di West was honored January 9, 2008 by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Oregon (ACEC Oregon.) Ron Sluggett, 3Di West Production Manager, was on hand to receive the honor award. Teaming with the engineering firm of Anderson-Perry, 3Di West provided an accurate survey and mapping solution for a critical freeway interchange in Grants Pass, Oregon. Engineering Excellence is an annual design competition recognizing engineering acievements demonstrating the highest degree of merit and ingenuity.

ASPRS CERTIFIED PHOTOGRAMMETRIST

3Di West has 4 ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrists on staff. Bret Hazell, Ron Sluggett, W. Lynn Engel and Gordon Peet successfully completed the rigorous application and testing requirements set forth by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).

After an extensive qualifications-based Peer Review by ASPRS, the candidates completed a 4-hour written examination. ASPRS certification is official recognition by one’s colleagues and peers that an individual has demonstrated professional integrity and competence in their field. This professional development and certification demonstrates 3Di West's continuing commitment to professional excellence in the mapping sciences.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROFESSIONAL (GISP)

3Di West is pleased to announce Luke Savage has been certified by the GIS Certification Institute as a GIS Professional (GISP.) He has met the standards for educational achievement, professional experience, and ethical conduct.

Sponsored by the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is a not-for-profit organization providing the geographic information systems (GIS) community with a complete certification program. 3Di West is committed to professional excellence in the mapping sciences and congratulates Luke on his professional achievement.

Other News::


GIS professionals, students and educators in 68 countries around the globe gathered on November 14, 2007 to commemorate GIS DAY 2007.

Boise State University was the venue for the 2007 GIS Day in the Boise, Idaho area. GIS professionals gathered in BSU's new Interactive Learning Center to demonstrate the importance of GIS in visualizing and analyzing natural resources, economics, growth, and transportation in the region. 3Di West was proud to support and join Idaho GIS users at this event.

ESRI 27th Annual International User Conference was held at the San Diego Convention Center June 18-22, 2007.

Molly Jackson of 3Di West stands in front of her Map Gallery submission. The entry, entitled "Using GIS to Determine Visual Sensitivity of a Landscape," was co-produced by Visual Genesis, technology team member of 3Di West.

The Map Gallery is a convention highlight, showcasing work from hundreds of GIS users from around the world.

The City of Pocatello, Idaho was selected for a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award presented by ESRI. Selected from over 100,000 user sites worldwide, The City of Pocatello is recognized for their extraordinary contributions and outstanding work in the GIS field. The award was presented to 150 winners from around the world at a special ceremony at the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego on June 20th.

The Boise location of 3Di West focuses on supporting engineers and surveyors in Idaho with high quality aerial mapping products, produced in-house on new state-of-the-art photogrammetric systems. Scott Wilson, a longtime photogrammetrist at 3Di West, is Project Manager of the Idaho office. The location in Boise is a valuable resource for clients throughout Idaho, especially in the Ada and Canyon County areas, where these firms can now interact directly with their mapping subconsultant on large scale engineering work.
